MAY 2017

May-Dec, 1st Friday of each month - “ART after DARK” Downtown Galleries remain open ‘til 9pm Artist’s Receptions, Demonstrations, & Music

May 5- Fri - "ART after DARK"
Participating galleries & studios remain open until 9 pm on this evening with special artist’s showings, displays, and refreshments. Look for the WGA group flag representing the Waynesville Gallery Association.

May 6 – Gateway to the Smokies Half Marathon and 4-Miler –Sponsored by the Haywood Chamber of Commerce. Starting line is on Main Street with 7:30 a.m. start; finish on Charles Street at approximately Noon. This is a rolling closure with police assistance.

May 13 – Whole Bloomin’ Thing Festival – Sponsored by the Frog Level Merchants Association - street closure of Depot and Commerce Streets from 5:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.

May 19 and May 20 – Last Shot Fired Commemoration – Sponsored by Sons of Confederate Veterans. Sulphur Springs Park and Greenhill Cemetery. Civil War Re-enactment of a camp at the park. Blanks will be discharged as a 21-gun salute at the park on Saturday morning and at the Greenhill Cemetery at approximately 2:00 p.m. Police are aware of this discharge event and a Code Red notification will be sent out.

May 27- Sat - BLOCK PARTY Dancing in Main Street, 3 live bands, 7pm; “Kids on Main” activity hour, 6-7pm, eats & treats, restaurants open.
 


JUNE 2017

June 2- Fri - "ART after DARK"

June 10 - Sat – The 7th Annual APPALACHIAN LIFESTYLE CELEBRATION A heritage themed event. Mountain Music, Clogging, Demonstrations, Art, Craft, Storytelling, Traditional Food 10am-5pm

June 23 – Fri - MOUNTAIN STREET DANCE An old-fashioned mountain hoe down! Live mountain music & clogging, instructions & demonstrations, concessions, Historic Courthouse. 6:30-9pm.
 


JULY 2017

July 4 -Tues - STARS & STRIPES CELEBRATION Shops & Restaurants open all day, live music & entertainment, 11-3. Patriotic Kid’s Parade on Main Street 11am; Haywood Community Band Patriotic Concert on Courthouse lawn, 2 pm.

July 7- Fri - "ART after DARK"
Participating galleries & studios remain open until 9 pm on this evening with special artist’s showings, displays, and refreshments. Look for the WGA group flag representing the Waynesville Gallery Association.

July 7 – Fri - MOUNTAIN STREET DANCE An old-fashioned mountain hoe down! Live mountain music & clogging, instructions & demonstrations, concessions, Historic Courthouse. 6:30-9pm.

July 13- Rally USA – Sponsored by the Haywood County Tourism Development Authority – a scavenger hunt/road race to be on Main Street from 7:00 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. Traffic will be diverted for the start of the event.

July 20-30 FOLKMOOT USA INTERNATIONAL DANCE FESTIVAL - Sponsored by Folkmoot USA - NC’s Official International Festival celebrating the world’s cultural heritage through folk music and dance. Countries from around the world attend and showcase performances are held in Waynesville and regional venues. www.folkmootusa.org

July 21 – Fri - MOUNTAIN STREET DANCE- An old-fashioned mountain hoe down! Live mountain music & clogging, instructions & demonstrations, concessions, Historic Courthouse. 6:30-9pm.

July 22-Sat - FOLKMOOT USA PARADE of NATIONS – Sponsored by Folkmoot USA- International dancers & musicians parade down Main Street to Opening Ceremonies on Historic Courthouse lawn 10 am

July 29- Sat – INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL DAY – Sponsored by Folkmoot USA - a celebration featuring, art, dance, music, food 10-5

Oct 14 - Sat – The 34th annual CHURCH STREET ART & CRAFT SHOW on Main St! Known as one of the finest one-day juried art shows in the region. An art & craft marketplace with great food & drink, two stages of live mountain music, clogging teams, entertainment & more, 10am-5pm.

Oct 21 - Sat – The 29th annual APPLE HARVEST FESTIVAL – sponsored by the Haywood County Chamber of Commerce - Music, craft booths, apples, 10am-5pm. Application has not been received for this event at the time of the April 11 meeting.

Oct 31 – Tues – TREATS on the STREET Participating Downtown merchants offer Halloween treats for young children, 5 – 7 pm

Dec 1-4 – “HOLLY DAYS” Begins with ART after DARK on Friday evening, followed by seasonal events throughout the weekend ending with the Christmas Parade on Monday night at 6pm on Main Street
