Wells is a full service family-owned funeral home and crematorium that has been in business since 1888, the oldest in the county. According to their website, it was founded by C. T. Wells, Sr., who was the first undertaker in Haywood County. The business passed from one generation to the next, from Broadway Wells and James wells (his sons) to James and Dutch McCracken Wells, and the Greeley family.

Wells extended their services to Canton, with a new funeral home there built in the 1960s. Wells also purchased Crawford Funeral Home in Waynesville and rebuilt in 1990. This was followed by a cremation location in Asheville.
Wells Funeral Home will help with pre-arrangements, funding options, cremations, veteran burials and cremations, social security benefits, and general funeral services. Their service packages include ceremonies, services, and gatherings, memorialization and personalizing services, caring for your loved one's remains, final placement, products and merchandise (vaults, caskets, urns, etc.), and transportation services. They can take care of paying others on your behalf and assist in obtaining paperwork such as veteran documents, social security or insurance benefits, copies of death certificates, etc.
You can choose to personalize the services, including bagpipe players, a balloon release, customized casket cap panels, boutonnieres for pallbearers, keepsake urns, dove release, funeral favors, heirlooms and special items to display, memory book, memorial videos, picture portrait, and thumbies, among others.
